Materials: Genuine, solid opal and Argentium Sterling Silver.
Argentium Sterling silver is a modern sterling silver alloy. It is a true Sterling silver and contains 92.5% silver just as all other Sterling Silvers do, however it has many advantages over normal Sterling Silver. Traditional Sterling is made with a 7.5% copper alloy to give it enough hardness to create jewelry with. Argentium Sterling Silver instead has an alloy of Germanium. This means that Argentium Sterling Silver is extremely tarnish resistant, is somewhat harder to scratch, and does not cause allergies in for most people that are sensitive to Sterling Silver. Nearly everyone that suffers from allergy problems with traditional Sterling Silver find that they do not experience problems with Argentium Sterling Silver. Further, because Argentium Sterling Silver does not produce firescale, it does not require chemical treatments like traditional sterling silver does and therefore is far more environmentally friendly.
Stone quality/specs: High polish crystal opal cut in an oval cabochon shape. Crystal opal (also called 'jelly' opal) refers to any type of natural opal that has a transparent or translucent body which allows light to pass through the stone. This stone in particular is translucent to semi-transparent. This opal is a solid, genuine natural opal mined in Australia and cut and polished by Daniel York.
Description: This is such a pretty and subtle opal! This crystal opal is translucent to semi-transparent; it's not clear enough to look through like glass, but you can absolutely see though it (in the photos above you can see some of the silver on the back of the stone, from the front). It has some lovely, but subtle, green to aqua green fire. This only shows up from some directions, otherwise the stone might almost be mistaken for a moonstone. Because of its translucent nature, the color of the shirt you wear will influence how the stone looks. The fire will show more vividly when the stone is worn against dark colors. This is a smaller pendant, but very elegant and pretty. Take it into a beam of sunlight and see how the green fire jumps to life! I have no sun in the forecast for quite a while, or I'd take a video for you so you could see, here.
